What is the lifespan of LED pool lights?
The usual lifespan of an LED pool light is between 30,000 and 50,000 hours. For most pool owners, this translates to roughly 10 to 15 years of reliable service depending on frequency of use. In comparison, traditional incandescent bulbs typically last only 5,000 hours, while halogen bulbs often fail after 3,000 hours.
What color pool light doesn't attract bugs?
Warm-toned lights in the yellow, orange, and red spectrum are the most effective at not attracting bugs to your pool. These colors are less enticing to insects because they have longer wavelengths and emit a minimal ultraviolet (UV) component.
Can you put LED lights in a pool?
Yes, you can put LED lights in a pool using specially designed waterproof LED strip lights. These lights are an ideal solution for underwater pool lighting because they offer a highly customizable and dynamic lighting experience compared to traditional bulbs.
Are LED pool lights worth it?
Yes, LED pool lights are widely considered a worthwhile investment due to their superior energy efficiency and long-term cost savings. While they mean a higher upfront investment compared to traditional halogen or incandescent lights. They pay for themselves over time through significantly lower operational costs.
How many lumens should a pool light be?
To ensure safety and visibility, pool lighting requirements are calculated based on the surface area of the water. The standard brightness for pool lighting is as follows:
Underwater Lighting: You should provide a minimum of 10 lumens per square foot of pool water surface area. This is roughly equivalent to 1/2 watt of traditional incandescent lighting per square foot.
Surface and Deck Lighting: For the pool water surface and the surrounding wet deck, lighting should provide a minimum of 3 footcandles (30 lux) of illumination.
