View full detailsThere are a variety of different options for pool chlorine, including granular and powdered forms on the market. A standard cleaner is calcium hypochlorite (Cal-Hypo), which can be used to keep your pool clean as well as disinfect it with each use. Dichlor also helps in this process, while you may want to resort to something stronger, such as "pool shock" if the water has not been maintained properly or there's an algae problem.
Chlorine tablets, also known as chlorine tabs, are a type of chemical sanitizing agent for swimming pools and hot tubs. Chlorine tabs are a solid form of chlorine that is placed inside a chlorinator or floats in the pool. They are typically hockey puck-shaped, approximately 3 inches in diameter. The tablets dissolve over time to release chlorine into the water, killing germs and bacteria.
Chlorine sticks, on the other hand, are an alternative shape of chlorine for a pool. They are long cylinders that allow water to pass around them while they slowly dissolve and release chlorine into the water. The difference between these two forms of chlorine is mainly the shape and how they are applied to swimming pools and hot tubs.
Because chlorine sticks dissolve faster and more quickly than tabs do, they may be more suitable for those who want to quickly raise their chlorine levels if it falls below what is safe for swimming or bathing. On the other hand, because tabs last longer than sticks may be better for those who don’t need an immediate increase in their chlorination levels but still want reliable sanitation over time.
