Pentair Propane Cupro-Nickel Pool Heaters - Vita Filters

Pentair Propane Cupro-Nickel Heat Exchange Pool Heaters

Question: Are there any Pentair Propane Pool Heaters with Cupro-Nickel Heat Exchange?

Answer: All of the “Heavy Duty (HD)” Pentair heaters (part numbers ending HD) have cupro-nickel heat exchangers.  They all come standard as natural gas but can be converted to propane with only a replacement orifice kit (sold separately).  Contact us for the correct part numbers!

Cupro-nickel heat exchange pool heaters offer several advantages and disadvantages:

Pros:

  1. Corrosion resistance: Cupro-nickel is more resistant to corrosion compared to traditional copper heat exchangers, making it suitable for use in pool water that contains chlorine or salt.

  2. Durability: Cupro-nickel is known for its durability and longevity, which can result in a longer lifespan for the pool heater compared to other materials.

  3. Thermal conductivity: Cupro-nickel has good thermal conductivity, allowing for efficient heat transfer from the heat source to the pool water.

  4. Suitable for high-temperature applications: Cupro-nickel can withstand high temperatures, making it suitable for pool heaters that operate at elevated temperatures.

  5. Reduced maintenance: Due to its corrosion-resistant properties, cupro-nickel heat exchangers may require less maintenance compared to other materials.

Cons:

  1. Cost: Cupro-nickel heat exchange pool heaters tend to be more expensive than those made from other materials such as copper or aluminum.

  2. Limited availability: Cupro-nickel heat exchange pool heaters may be less common and may have limited availability compared to other types of pool heaters.

  3. Potential for galvanic corrosion: Although cupro-nickel is more corrosion-resistant than copper, it can still be susceptible to galvanic corrosion when coupled with other metals, such as steel or aluminum.

  4. Weight: Cupro-nickel is denser than other materials, which can make cupro-nickel heat exchange pool heaters heavier and potentially more difficult to install.

  5. Compatibility: Cupro-nickel may not be compatible with all types of pool systems or water chemistry, so it's important to ensure compatibility before installing a cupro-nickel heat exchange pool heater.

Overall, cupro-nickel heat exchange pool heaters offer excellent corrosion resistance and durability, but they may come at a higher cost and have limited availability compared to other materials. It's essential to consider factors such as budget, water chemistry, and compatibility when deciding whether to invest in a cupro-nickel heat exchange pool heater.
