Spa Pumps 101: How to Wire for Power or Rotate the Wet End

Spa Pumps 101: How to Wire for Power or Rotate the Wet End

Spa Pump Wiring: (Link to Video Here)

NOTE: Make sure power breaker is OFF before proceeding.  This is a general guideline only, your spa may vary.  Always check the motor and spa diagram for proper wiring.

For 2-speed systems, check the existing wiring before removing. Locate and label your high speed and low speed wires.

Open the panel on the back of the pump motor and wire using the following guidelines:

If you have 1-speed spa, you'll use common (white), ground (green), and H for High Speed (this can be black or red depending on the spa)

If you have 2-speed spa, you'll use common (white), ground (green), H for High Speed (normally black, but can vary), and L for Low Speed (Normally Red, but can vary)

Pump wet end rotation: (Link to video here)

Rotating the wet end of a hot tub pump may be necessary when installing or replacing it to ensure it aligns correctly with the hot tub's plumbing alignment.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to rotating the wet end on a pump:

1.) Tool needed

  • For a 48 frame pump, use a ¼ inch nut driver or socket wrench.
  • For a 56 frame pump, use a 5/16 inch nut driver or socket wrench.

2.) Locate the 4 long through-bolts at the back of the motor. Loosen these bolts without removing them completely. Unscrew them until they are flush with the surface.

3.) Rotate the wet end to your desired position.

4.) Align the female threading of the brass inserts on the wet end with the through-bolts. Ensure the wet end is properly positioned.

5.) Push the 4 through-bolts back into the inserts and tighten. Be careful not to overtighten them, as this could damage the wet end!
