Cupronickel pool heaters are recommended because they offer better resistance to corrosion and wear than standard copper, especially in salt pools, pools exposed to salt air near the ocean, pools with occasional chemistry swings, or systems that see heavy use. If your water stays well balanced and heater use is moderate, a standard copper heater may be enough, but cupronickel is the better long-term choice when you want added durability.
