I am trying to find a heater that we can leave on year round so we do not have to close our pool in the winter, we do have some extremely cold weather from time to time, occasionally around zero or below, don’t usually last long. This year we had about a week of extremely cold temperatures

Where are you located, and do you mainly want to swim through winter or just extend the season? In colder climates, a gas heater is usually the most reliable way to keep a 22,000-gallon pool warm year-round, while in warmer areas a heat pump is typically the best choice for maintaining temperature efficiently (it struggles as air temps drop).
