To tell if a pool ionizer is working, check the control panel or indicator lights for normal operation and measure the copper (and silver, if applicable) ion levels in the water using a test kit; they should be within the recommended range specified by the manufacturer. If the readings are too low or the indicator shows a problem, the ionizer may not be functioning properly.
